With El Capitan, Apple introduced Split View support
<Use two Mac apps side by side in Split View - Apple Support>
Is that what you are talking about?

On numbers I can’t access some vital spreadsheets as they are just blanked out since the update on pages my folders disappeared.

Excellent tip. Do they always centre on the Arrange in front though? Would be nice to position one window to the side and have the rest follow suit...
Thanks
This doesn't help. I wish to work on two documents simultaneously, or at least view 2 documens simultaneously, SIDE BY SIDE, not split horizontally, which the programme seems to want to do.
So the question remains: how do I view and work on two documents simultaneously?

What program?
There are utilities available to give some Microsoft Windows management functionality (BetterTouchTool, BetterSnapTool, are 2 that I know about, but there are others out there).
Could you not just open each document window, size and position the windows so they are where you want them, side-by-side?
NOTE: This is a very old thread (2011), so it might not get much traffic. You may get more views by creating a new thread, explaining what you desire, and with what program (or programs).
I've been at this for eleventeen-million-years and did not know that trick. Thanks!
CholNairobi, I use the simple little program called "Cinch".
It gives Macs the same function as Windows, i.e. you drag a window to one side of the screen, and it expands it to fill that HALF of the screen. Drag another window to the other side, and it expands to fit THAT half of the screen. Drag the window to the top, and it automatically expands it to fit the ENTIRE screen.
It's wonderful!
